It’s highly unlikely to see a CPU in idle state if you have a single processor system. It’s just waiting for a task to be assigned to it. When the CPU is in the idle state, the CPU is doing nothing. When your system is up and running, a CPU can be in three states: idle, busy, or waiting for I/O.
